Roller Shutter and Sectional Door Manufacturers in China for Warehouse and Gas Station Projects: Five Sourcing Routes

Blog,Product Selection Guide

Roller shutter and sectional door manufacturers in China include steel rolling-door workshops, sectional overhead door factories, high-speed door makers, aluminium and glazed shutter producers and full door-and-gate suppliers, and each prices a different scope under the same words “industrial door”. A warehouse may need loading-dock doors with seals and operators; a gas station canopy building may need a few shutters for shop and store openings.

This guide sorts the supply side into five sourcing routes so a procurement team can send one brief to the right makers and compare the answers fairly. It is not a ranking. No factory is named or scored here, and no claim is made about wind resistance, fire performance, security or cycle life of any product. The specification must define those requirements, and each maker must show evidence for the exact model it offers.

What should a roller shutter or sectional door brief state?

A brief that says only “roller door, 3 m wide, 40 sets” produces quotations that cannot be compared. State at least the following.

  • Opening schedule: a schedule by opening with clear width and height, door type and handing, tied to the architect’s drawing numbers.
  • Door type: roller shutter, sectional overhead, high-speed fabric, folding or sliding, so every maker prices the same thing.
  • Curtain or panel build: slat or panel material, thickness if the designer names one, insulation, vision panels, and finish colour with an approved sample.
  • Guides, hood and fixing: side guides, barrel, hood or box, and whether fixing is to concrete, steel or masonry, with the fixing parts included or excluded stated.
  • Operation: manual chain or hand-lift, electric motor, supply voltage and frequency of the project country, remote or wall controls, and manual override on power loss.
  • Safety and sensing: any edge sensors, photocells or fire-linked release the designer requires, named as requirements rather than assumed.
  • Wind, weather and fire: the test or classification the project names, with its edition, set by the designer or authority. Do not assume a rule from another market applies.
  • Quantities and spares: a schedule by door type and by building, with spare motors, remotes and seals stated separately.

Five sourcing routes for roller shutters and sectional doors

1. Steel roller shutter workshops

These makers focus on rolled slats, guides and barrels for storefront, store-room and light industrial openings. Ask about slat profile and material, coating system, how the curtain is fixed to the barrel, and how spare parts will be supplied later. Request a finished sample of the slat and a drawing of the guide and hood detail, not only a photograph of an installed door.

2. Sectional overhead door factories

Sectional doors suit loading bays and workshop openings where headroom and insulation matter. Ask about panel build and insulation, track and spring system, how the door is balanced, and what the quotation includes for hardware, seals and fixing. Compare quotations opening by opening, because track layouts change with headroom.

3. High-speed door makers

Fabric high-speed doors are specified where traffic is frequent and the opening must close quickly. The control system matters as much as the curtain, so ask which controller, sensors and safety devices are included, what voltage and frequency the motor is built for, and how spares and technical support will reach the project country.

4. Aluminium, glazed and special shutter producers

Aluminium and polycarbonate-slat shutters and glazed sectional doors are chosen for appearance, light and shopfront use. Ask about the profile and finish system, the glazing material, and how the maker controls colour between batches. For the wider aluminium door and window range, see our guide to aluminium window and door manufacturers.

5. Full door-and-gate suppliers

Some suppliers make industrial doors together with steel doors, fire-rated doors, dock levellers and gates. This route gives one party to deal with across several openings, but ask the supplier to show capability for each door type it quotes, because rolling doors, sectional doors and fire doors use different skills. Our guide to fire-rated door manufacturers covers the fire-rated end of this range.

How to compare door quotations

  • What is included: curtain or panels, guides, hood, motor, controls, sensors, fixings and packing, shown in separate columns.
  • Opening-by-opening match: each line tied to an opening on your schedule, so missing doors show up.
  • Operator details: motor make type, voltage, frequency and the manual override, stated in writing for each model.
  • Finish and colour: the exact coating or finish reference quoted, so a cheaper substitute cannot appear later.
  • Installation scope: whether installation, commissioning and training are included or by others, and who supplies the electrical connection.
  • Packing: how slats, guides and panels are packed and protected, and how parts are marked by opening.
  • Exclusions and substitutions: any change to material, thickness or components the maker proposes.

Warehouse and gas station projects: what changes

For a warehouse, the schedule is usually dock doors and personnel doors with a few service openings, so operator and seal details dominate the brief. For a gas station or similar roadside project, the doors are fewer but sit in a building whose design may carry extra requirements from the project authority. Ask the designer which authority requirements apply to doors and operators at the site, and put those requirements in the enquiry rather than adding them after quotation.

For heavy industrial opening types, our guide to roller versus sectional versus high-speed doors compares the door types, and our guide to pre-engineered steel building manufacturers covers the building shell the doors sit in.

What evidence to ask each route for

Evidence should be requested for the exact model and opening size, not for a product family. For each route above, ask for the following in writing and keep the answers with the quotation.

  • Steel roller workshops: a drawing of the slat profile, the guide and hood detail, and the coating system named on the product sheet.
  • Sectional door factories: a panel section drawing, the track and hardware list, and the headroom each quoted door needs.
  • High-speed door makers: the controller and sensor list, the motor supply requirement and the spare-parts arrangement.
  • Aluminium and glazed shutter producers: the profile and glazing description, and a finished sample of the colour.
  • Full door-and-gate suppliers: a separate product sheet for each door type quoted, so each type can be judged on its own.

Specification gaps to close before quotation

A quotation cannot answer the questions below for itself. Before sending the enquiry, check that the brief answers these questions.

  • Are clear opening sizes or wall opening sizes given, and do the makers know which one the schedule uses?
  • Is the door to be fixed to concrete, steel or masonry, and are fixing parts included in the supply?
  • Who supplies the electrical connection, the controls wiring and the commissioning?
  • Which authority requirements apply to doors and operators at the site, and who has named them?
  • Are spare motors, remotes, seals and slat or panel parts wanted, and are they quoted separately?
  • How will the doors be marked and packed so parts can be matched to openings on site?

Next steps for a warehouse or station door package

Send each maker the same brief: the opening schedule, door types, operation requirements, finish references and the test or classification requirements your designer names. Ask for answers in writing, opening by opening. FBM Sourcing also runs FBM Furniture for furniture-only packages; doors stay on this site.

Questions buyers ask about roller shutters and sectional doors from China

What is the difference between a roller shutter and a sectional door?

A roller shutter coils its curtain onto a barrel above the opening, while a sectional door has hinged panels that run on tracks. They need different headroom, hardware and operators, so the brief should name the type for each opening.

Should we order a sample before a large door order?

Yes, where the finish or slat profile matters. Approve a finished sample, record the approval, and refer to it in the purchase order. For operators, ask for the model specification in writing.

Can one maker supply roller shutters, sectional doors and fire doors together?

Some can. One supplier simplifies coordination, but ask it to show capability for each door type, because the products use different skills.

Who is responsible for the electrical supply to the door operator?

Either the supplier or the project, so say which in the brief. State the supply voltage and frequency of the project country so the motor is built for it.

How does FBM Sourcing support a door package?

We review the brief, collect comparable quotations and manage the package for the project. For suppliers you nominate, we charge a 5% commission; for products we source for you, we quote a direct price. Our own team performs one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment, and the client’s project team is welcome to attend.
