Ex-factory from China, a standard uPVC casement window typically runs 15–30% below an ordinary (non-thermally-broken) aluminum equivalent, and 30–45% below thermally broken aluminum. But the gap narrows once you specify for performance: a uPVC window upgraded with steel reinforcement for larger openings and multi-chamber profiles approaches ordinary aluminum pricing. Where Aluminum Windows Are the Right Call
Aluminum’s strength-to-weight ratio allows slim frames, floor-to-ceiling heights, wide sliding panels and curtain-wall integration that uPVC structurally cannot match. Specify aluminum when your project has openings above roughly 2.4m in any dimension, when the architect wants minimal sightlines, for commercial and hotel frontages where hardware cycles are high, and in cyclone or high-wind regions where frame rigidity drives compliance. For apartment developments and villa projects with standard opening sizes, uPVC delivers the best thermal performance per dollar — multi-chamber profiles with double glazing routinely hit U-values that ordinary aluminum cannot reach at any price and thermally broken aluminum reaches only at a premium. uPVC never needs repainting, does not corrode in coastal air (though UV-stabilized profiles matter in strong-sun climates), and its welded corners seal extremely well. The trade-offs: chunkier frames, size limits on openings, and a lower perceived grade in premium developments where buyers expect aluminum.
Which System for Which Project Type?
The pattern across our orders is consistent. Hotels and commercial buildings: aluminum, almost without exception — durability and sightlines decide it. Premium villas: aluminum, often thermally broken, for the large-format glazing. QC Differences Worth Knowing
Inspection points differ by material. For aluminum: profile wall thickness against the quoted spec, coating thickness and adhesion, thermal break continuity, and hardware cycle testing. For uPVC: profile chamber count, steel reinforcement presence (factories quietly omit it), weld corner strength, and UV stabilizer grade.
