Contract upholstery fabric should be sourced against an application and an evidence schedule, not a colour card alone. The same appearance can conceal different fibre content, backing, abrasion performance, colourfastness, cleanability and fire-test status.
This 2026 list groups Chinese manufacturers by production route. It includes one listed-company example only where a current annual report supports the underlying fabric category; it does not label that company’s full range “contract grade”.
1. Decorative upholstery-fabric manufacturers
Zhejiang Zhongwang Fabric is a verifiable listed-company example. Its 2025 annual report describes decorative fabrics used for indoor sofas and outdoor furniture. The report does not establish that every fabric is contract grade or suitable for a named market, so project teams still need SKU-specific test reports and application evidence.
2. Woven performance-fabric mills
Use this route when the design requires controlled weave, repeat, backing or high-volume colour consistency. State fibre composition, finished width, usable width, roll length, repeat direction and acceptable shade variation.
3. Coated-fabric and vinyl manufacturers
Coated materials can suit wipe-clean seating, but the brief must define substrate, top coat, flexing, cold-crack or hydrolysis expectations, cleaning agents and the exact test method required by the project.
4. Outdoor and solution-dyed fabric manufacturers
Outdoor claims need evidence tied to the offered construction and colour. Ask for the test method, result, sample identification and intended exposure rather than accepting a generic “UV resistant” statement.
5. Print, dye and finishing specialists
These suppliers may convert greige fabric into a project-specific colour or pattern. Clarify who owns colour matching, strike-off approval, finishing chemistry, minimum dye lot and continuity between the approved sample and bulk production.
6. COM supply routes
When the client supplies its own material, record the upholstery width, repeat, nap direction, defects allowance, required metres per item and responsibility for transport to the furniture factory. See our COM and COL guide.
7. RFQ evidence checklist
- End use and destination market
- Fibre composition, weight, width, backing and finish
- Colour reference and approved lab dip or strike-off
- Named test method, report number, laboratory and tested sample
- Cleaning method and prohibited chemicals
- Order quantity, dye-lot plan, roll marking and packing
Also compare contract upholstery fabric specifications, fabric versus vinyl and upholstery foam requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does “commercial grade” prove compliance?
No. Ask for the named method, result, tested sample and validity of the report for the offered SKU.
Can one report cover every colour?
That depends on the method and report scope. Check the report rather than assuming.
What should be approved before cutting?
Approve colour, hand, construction, backing, direction, repeat and any required evidence for the actual material.
Who inspects the goods?
FBM Sourcing’s own QC team carries out one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment; clients are welcome.
How does FBM Sourcing charge?
For suppliers you nominate, FBM Sourcing charges a 5% commission. For products FBM Sourcing sources, we quote a direct price.
