Do SASO and SABER Apply to Office Furniture Shipped to Saudi Arabia?
Not as one answer for “office furniture”, because the Saudi system works item by item. The general process is in our SASO and SABER certification guide; for an office BOQ, three verified points matter.
- Regulated and non-regulated items differ. SABER’s training guide for shipment certificates says a shipment request shows regulated products holding a valid certificate of conformity and non-regulated products with an importer’s self-declaration. The importer of record confirms which applies to each desk, pedestal or chair.
- Upholstery can bring seating into the textile regulation. The scope article of SASO’s Technical Regulation for Textile Products (02-05-18-164) includes furniture coverings with at least 80% textile components by weight, and only the Arabic text is legally authentic. - Electric desks and power units are electrical equipment. Who Sets the Fire Requirement for Upholstered Office Seating?
Not the factory. The requirement follows the fire code in force, such as the Saudi Fire Protection Code (SBC 801) or the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice, as applied by the project’s fire consultant and accepted by the civil defence authority. We do not publish a test-per-authority table, because the answer depends on the building’s use and on how the code has been applied to it. A useful specification clause states:
- the test standard and edition taken from the approved fire strategy, for example EN 1021-1:2014 and EN 1021-2:2014 where European ignitability tests are named;
