Commercial Bar Stool Manufacturers in China for Hospitality Projects: Five Sourcing Routes

Blog,Product Selection Guide

Commercial bar stool manufacturers in China include metal-frame stool factories, solid-wood stool workshops, upholstered stool makers, moulded and polypropylene stool producers and full bar and restaurant furniture suppliers, and each prices a different scope under the same words “bar stool”. A hotel bar may need a few dozen identical stools at one counter height; a restaurant group may need several heights for bar, counter and high-table seating.

This guide sorts the supply side into five sourcing routes so a procurement team can send one brief to the right makers and compare the answers fairly. It is not a ranking. No factory is named or scored here, and no claim is made about strength, durability or fire performance of any product. The specification must define those requirements, and each maker must show evidence for the exact model it offers.

What should a bar stool brief state?

A brief that says only “bar stool, black, 200 pieces” produces quotations that cannot be compared. State at least the following.

  • Heights: the counter or bar height in the drawing and the seat height the designer wants for each, because bar, counter and table stools differ. See our guide to bar stool sourcing from China.
  • Frame material and construction: steel tube, aluminium, solid timber or moulded shell, and how joints are made and reinforced. Ask each maker to describe the joints, because the joints carry the load in a stool.
  • Footrest: position, material and finish, since the footrest is a contact point at a bar.
  • Seat and back: hard seat, upholstered seat, or upholstered seat and back; foam type if named; the covering reference with an approved sample.
  • Swivel and return: fixed, swivel or swivel-return base, and how the mechanism is built.
  • Finish: powder coat, plating, stain or lacquer, with the colour reference and an approved sample kept in the purchase order.
  • Floor protection: glide type for the floor finish in the venue.
  • Test and fire evidence: the standard or test method the project specifies, with its edition, named by the designer or consultant. Do not assume a rule from another market applies.

Five sourcing routes for commercial bar stools

1. Metal-frame stool factories

Steel and aluminium frames suit bars, cafés and high-turnover venues. Ask about tube wall thickness if the specification names one, weld finishing, the coating or plating system and how coverage is checked on edges and inside corners, and how the footrest is attached. Request a finished sample.

2. Solid-wood stool workshops

Timber stools suit restaurants and bars that want a warm look. Ask which species is offered, how the legs, rails and footrest are joined, how moisture is controlled in the material before assembly, and how stain colour is matched between batches. See our guide to commercial dining chairs for the matching chair range.

3. Upholstered stool makers

For hotel bars and lounge counters, the upholstery often carries the design. These makers are strong on foam shaping, seams and fabric handling. Ask how the covering is cut and matched across a large order, and who is responsible for cutting loss if the project supplies the fabric.

4. Moulded and polypropylene stool producers

Shell stools made on tooling suit casual venues and outdoor-adjacent bars. The first order carries a tooling decision, so ask whether the model is an existing catalogue shape or a new mould, which colours are available without a new compound, and how colour consistency is controlled between batches.

5. Full bar and restaurant furniture factories

Some factories make stools together with chairs, tables and booths in one finish family. This route gives better coordination and one party to deal with, but ask the factory to show stool capability, not only joinery. Our guides to restaurant tables and bases and restaurant booth and banquette seating cover the wider package.

How to compare bar stool quotations

  • What is included: frame, footrest, seat, covering, glides, packing and delivery, shown in separate columns.
  • Height match: the seat height quoted against the counter height on your drawing.
  • Sample: what is approved, by whom, and how production will be matched to it.
  • Joint and frame description: the construction the maker states for each model, in writing.
  • Finish and covering: the exact reference quoted, so a cheaper substitute cannot appear later.
  • Packing: cartons per stool or per stack, and how finished faces and footrests are protected.
  • Exclusions and substitutions: any change to material, foam, covering or hardware the maker proposes.

Approve one stool before ordering many

For a repeated stool, the strongest control is an approved production-standard sample. Agree what it represents (frame, finish, covering, seat feel), record who approved it and when, and make the order refer to it. If the stool will be heavily used, ask the designer or consultant whether a laboratory test report on the exact model is required, and put that in the enquiry rather than adding it after quotation.

What evidence to ask each route for

Evidence should be requested for the exact model and height, not for a product family. For each route above, ask for the following in writing and keep the answers with the quotation.

  • Metal-frame stool factories: a drawing of the frame and footrest attachment, the coating or plating system, and a finished sample.
  • Solid-wood stool workshops: the timber named, a description of the leg, rail and footrest joints, and a finished sample.
  • Upholstered stool makers: the foam and covering description and how seams are finished.
  • Moulded and polypropylene stool producers: whether the shape is an existing mould, the colour range and how colour is controlled between batches.
  • Full bar and restaurant furniture factories: a product sheet for each stool type, so stools are judged separately from tables and chairs.

Specification gaps to close before quotation

A quotation cannot answer the questions below for itself. Before sending the enquiry, check that the brief answers these questions.

  • Are the bar or counter heights on the drawing, and is the seat height stated for each stool type?
  • Is the footrest position and finish stated, and is it described as part of the frame or a separate part?
  • Is the stool fixed, swivel or swivel-return, and how is the mechanism built?
  • Is the finish approved on a sample, with the code kept in the purchase order?
  • Which glides suit the floor in each venue?
  • How are stools packed, and are they stacked in cartons or packed one by one?

Next steps for a bar or hotel seating package

Send each maker the same brief: drawings with counter heights, schedule by stool type and venue, finish and covering references, test requirements and your sample approval process. FBM Sourcing also runs FBM Furniture’s contract seating pages for furniture-only packages.

Questions buyers ask about commercial bar stools from China

What seat height should a commercial bar stool have?

It depends on the bar or counter height in your drawing. The brief should give both heights, because bar, counter and table stools differ, and the designer should state the clearance wanted.

Should we order a sample stool before a large order?

Yes. Approve a production-standard sample showing frame, footrest, finish and covering, record the approval, and refer to it in the purchase order.

Can one maker supply stools, chairs and tables together?

Some can. A single maker helps with finish coordination, but ask it to show capability in each product, because stools, chairs and tables use different skills.

Who is responsible for fabric on upholstered stools?

Either the maker or the project. Say which in the brief, and if the project supplies fabric, agree the delivery date, the cutting-loss allowance and the acceptance check at the factory.

How does FBM Sourcing support a bar furniture package?

We review the brief, collect comparable quotations and manage the package for the project. For suppliers you nominate, we charge a 5% commission; for products we source for you, we quote a direct price. Our own team performs one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment, and the client’s project team is welcome to attend.
