Do China Window and Door Packages Include Screens and Hardware?

China window and door packages do not automatically include screens, and hardware is included but not automatically the grade you need. Windows ship with a default handle, hinge or roller set unless the contract names a specific hardware brand and rating, and screens are always a separate line item that must be added to the order. On project packages, both should be specified at drawing stage and produced by the same factory group so frames, screens and hardware arrive matched.

This is one of the most common gaps in window orders we are asked to rescue: the container arrives, the windows are correct, and the site team discovers there are no screens and the friction stays are the factory’s lightest option. Here is what project owners, builders and contractors should actually specify.

What Is Included in a Standard China Window Order?

  • Frames and sashes fabricated to shop drawings
  • Glazing as specified (single, double, laminated, Low-E)
  • A default hardware set: handles, hinges or rollers, basic locks
  • Standard export packing

Not included unless requested: screens of any type, upgraded or branded hardware, restrictors and child-safety devices, trickle vents, installation accessories beyond the basic kit, and site spares. None of this is sharp practice — it is how factories keep base quotations comparable — but it means the cheapest quote is usually the barest one.

Which Hardware Should You Specify Instead of the Default?

Hardware is rated, not generic. Friction stays are rated by sash weight and salt-spray hours; multi-point gears must match the profile’s groove geometry; stainless grade (304 vs 316) matters within a few kilometres of coastline. For hotels, key-alike programs and restrictors belong in the contract, not in a site variation. The contract should name brand, model and grade for every moving part, with substitution prohibited — the specification logic is covered in our window hardware sourcing program and the inspection side in window hardware and hinge QC.

How Do Screens Get Added to the Package?

Screens are ordered against the window shop drawings, ideally from the same factory group: fixed fly screens for sliders, retractable cassettes for casements, sliding screen panels for doors, and stainless security mesh where intrusion or cyclone ratings apply. Ordered together, frame colours are powder-coated in the same batch and screen dimensions come off production frames rather than site measurements. Ordered separately later, every one of those alignments becomes your risk. Types and mesh options are detailed in our window screens sourcing program.

What Should the Contract Say?

  • Hardware: brand, model, grade, finish and cycle/salt-spray rating per window type
  • Screens: type, mesh material, frame colour code, quantity per window schedule
  • Compliance: WaterMark, AS2047 or destination-market marks where required
  • Spares: an agreed percentage of handles, stays, rollers and screen clips
  • Substitution: prohibited without written buyer approval

How This Runs Inside a Managed Package

On our window programs the hardware schedule and screen schedule are locked at drawing stage, verified at pre-shipment inspection, and packed labelled by floor and unit. Windows, screens, hardware spares and other building materials from the same project consolidate into shared containers — the model shown in our Australian full-house procurement case, where WaterMark tapware, screens-ready windows and ten other categories shipped as one program. Buying windows this way is what makes importing windows from China workable inside a construction schedule.
