China does not have one single “best” furniture production city. The right manufacturing hub depends on what you are buying. Foshan is strong for full-project furniture packages and showroom comparison; Dongguan is known for export-oriented upholstered, solid-wood and high-spec custom work; Anji specializes in seating; Shengfang is useful for metal-and-glass furniture; and Chengdu serves large-scale panel-furniture production.
For a hotel, apartment, office or villa project, the practical question is not “Where is furniture made in China?” It is: which China furniture district has the factories, materials, subcontractors and quality level that match this package?
This guide compares nine major production regions, explains what buyers can realistically source in each one, and gives you a factory-screening process that works better than copying a random “top 50 furniture manufacturers” list.

Quick comparison of China’s main furniture manufacturing hubs
| Manufacturing hub | Typical strengths | Best for | Main sourcing caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foshan–Shunde, Guangdong | Full-home furniture, upholstery, hotel FF&E, custom casegoods, broad showroom ecosystem | Mixed furniture packages and buyers who need fast product comparison | A showroom may be a retailer or trading company rather than the actual factory |
| Dongguan, Guangdong | Export furniture, upholstery, solid wood, veneer, detailed finishes and custom hospitality work | Higher-spec hotel, residential and branded programs | Premium samples do not automatically prove repeat-production consistency |
| Guangzhou and Panyu, Guangdong | Office, commercial and hospitality supply chains; design, trading and export services | Projects combining furniture with lighting, hardware and other fit-out products | “Guangzhou supplier” may operate a factory in another Pearl River Delta city |
| Anji, Zhejiang | Office chairs, task seating, gaming chairs and seating components | Chair-heavy office, education and hospitality packages | Mechanisms, gas lifts, foam and test standards must be specified separately |
| Ningbo–Hangzhou–Shaoxing, Zhejiang | Outdoor furniture, panel furniture, cabinets, bamboo/wood products and export logistics | Retail programs and repeat export orders | Capability varies sharply by subcluster and product construction |
| Suzhou–Nantong–Changzhou, Jiangsu | Office furniture, mattresses, home furniture, panels and contract manufacturing | East China projects and mixed commercial packages | Confirm whether finishing and upholstery are in-house or subcontracted |
| Qingdao and Shandong clusters | Solid wood, panel furniture, casegoods and wood-processing supply | Solid-wood and casegoods programs, especially for northern ports | Moisture control and timber documentation need close attention |
| Shengfang, Hebei | Metal, glass, dining sets, folding furniture and value-oriented production | Large-volume metal-frame tables, chairs and simple commercial products | Check welding, coating, glass safety and packaging, not only appearance |
| Chengdu, Sichuan | Panel furniture, whole-home customization and domestic-scale manufacturing | Apartment and residential packages serving inland markets | Export documentation and overseas project experience vary by factory |
This is a sourcing map, not an official ranking. Factory ownership, product focus and export experience change, so every supplier still needs current verification.
Why furniture production is clustered by region
Furniture factories perform better when nearby suppliers can provide panels, timber, foam, fabric, stone, metalwork, glass, hardware, cartons and finishing services. A mature cluster reduces the time required to sample a new design and makes it easier to solve component problems.
That is why two factories with similar websites can have very different capabilities. One may be located inside a dense upholstery ecosystem with several foam and fabric options available in a day. Another may need to send components hundreds of kilometres for finishing.
For project buyers, a cluster influences five practical variables:
- Product depth. A mature hub usually offers more factories in the same category.
- Customization speed. Nearby component suppliers can shorten sampling and correction cycles.
- Minimum order quantity. Specialized factories may accept a project quantity more readily when components are locally available.
- Quality-control access. Multiple processes can be inspected within the same region.
- Consolidation cost. Factories close to one warehouse or port are easier to combine into a project shipment.
The manufacturing address therefore matters. Ask every potential China furniture manufacturer for its registered company name, factory address, production address and export entity. Those four details are not always the same.
1. Foshan and Shunde: the broadest comparison base for project furniture
Foshan, particularly Shunde and Lecong, is often the first stop for international project buyers because it combines a very large furniture-market ecosystem with nearby manufacturing. Buyers can compare sofas, beds, dining furniture, hotel room sets, loose furniture, outdoor pieces and custom casegoods without travelling between distant provinces.
What buyers commonly source here
- Hotel guest-room and public-area furniture
- Sofas, lounge chairs and upholstered beds
- Dining tables, chairs and occasional furniture
- Apartment and villa packages
- Custom wardrobes, vanities and fixed furniture
- Contemporary, luxury-look and value-engineered collections
The area is sometimes described online as a furniture city China destination because of the concentration of malls and suppliers. However, the Foshan furniture market and a Foshan furniture factory are not the same thing. Showrooms help with selection; factories determine engineering, capacity and quality control.
Before ordering, trace each selected item back to its production site. Confirm whether the seller owns the factory, has an exclusive manufacturing partner, or is purchasing from several workshops. Our Foshan Furniture Market Guide explains how to separate market selection from factory verification.
Best fit
Foshan furniture manufacturers are a strong option when a project needs many furniture types, moderate customization and container consolidation. The cluster is especially efficient when the buyer wants to compare physical samples before finalizing a BOQ.
Main risk
The density of suppliers creates an illusion that every showroom is a manufacturer. Treat “factory direct” as a claim to verify, not a fact printed on a business card.
2. Dongguan: export-oriented custom and higher-spec production
Dongguan developed around export manufacturing and a deep network of woodworking, upholstery, metal, finishing and packaging suppliers. It is a useful base for custom hotel furniture, branded residential collections, veneer work, solid-wood furniture and upholstered pieces that require more controlled detailing.
What buyers commonly source here
- Custom hotel bedroom furniture
- Sofas, lounge chairs and upholstered headboards
- Veneered casegoods and solid-wood pieces
- High-end residential furniture
- OEM/ODM collections for importers and brands
- Complex finishes combining wood, metal, stone or leather
Best fit
Dongguan works well for buyers with approved drawings, finish standards, reference samples and a repeat program. It is less about walking through thousands of ready-made products and more about finding a factory whose engineering and finishing match a defined brief.
Main risk
A beautiful sample room does not prove stable batch production. Audit the cutting, drying, sanding, finishing, upholstery and packing processes. Ask which steps are subcontracted and inspect a live order—not only the supplier’s best display pieces.
3. Guangzhou and Panyu: a commercial sourcing and coordination base
Searches for furniture manufacturers in China Guangzhou often mix three different supplier types: factories physically inside Guangzhou, sales offices for Pearl River Delta factories, and trading or project-management companies coordinating production elsewhere.
That does not make Guangzhou a poor sourcing base. It makes role clarity essential.
What buyers commonly source or coordinate here
- Office and commercial furniture
- Hospitality furniture packages
- Lighting, decorative items and furniture accessories
- Export documentation and logistics
- Design development and multi-factory coordination
Best fit
Guangzhou is convenient when a project combines furniture with other interior products and needs one coordination point. Its transport connections also make it a practical base for visiting Foshan and Dongguan suppliers.
Main risk
Do not use a Guangzhou office address as proof of manufacturing. Put the actual production location and approved subcontractors in the purchase agreement.
4. Anji: China’s specialist seating cluster
Anji in Zhejiang is associated with office chairs and related seating production. Its value is specialization: chair frames, bases, casters, mechanisms, gas lifts, mesh, moulded foam and upholstery are available within a focused supply chain.
What buyers commonly source here
- Task and executive chairs
- Meeting and visitor seating
- Gaming chairs
- Bar stools and selected lounge seating
- Chair components and private-label models
Best fit
Anji is efficient for offices, schools, coworking spaces and dealers buying a concentrated seating program.
Main risk
Two chairs that look identical can perform very differently. The RFQ should identify the required test standard, user weight, duty cycle, mechanism model, gas-lift class, base material, caster type, foam density, fabric performance and warranty test. Never approve an office chair from a photo and unit price alone.
Sourcing this for a commercial project?
FBM Sourcing works with project owners, developers, main contractors and FF&E contractors on hotel, apartment, school, office and other commercial building projects. Send us your BOQ, drawings or product list — our team will review it and get back to you.
5. Zhejiang’s wider export belt: outdoor, panel and repeat-order furniture
Beyond Anji, the Ningbo–Hangzhou–Shaoxing area includes diverse furniture suppliers serving export markets. Product strengths vary by city and factory, but the wider region is useful for outdoor products, panel furniture, cabinets, bamboo/wood items and repeat retail programs.
Ningbo’s port access can support regular export schedules. Still, “near a port” is not a substitute for production capability. Verify who makes the frames, who applies the finish and where final assembly and inspection occur.
Best fit
- Repeat wholesale or private-label collections
- Outdoor and garden furniture
- Flat-pack and panel-based items
- Programs requiring established export packing
Main risk
The label “Zhejiang factory” is too broad for supplier selection. Compare process-level capability and confirmed production address.
6. Jiangsu: East China contract manufacturing
Furniture companies in the Suzhou, Nantong and Changzhou corridor serve office, home, mattress and panel-furniture categories. Proximity to Shanghai and other East China supply networks can help projects that already source flooring, lighting or building products in the region.
Best fit
Jiangsu can work for office and residential packages, especially where the buyer has other suppliers in East China and wants regional consolidation.
Main risk
Ask whether upholstery, painting, metalwork and stone tops are produced in-house. If key processes move between subcontractors, create inspection hold points before those components are combined.
7. Shandong and Qingdao: solid wood, panels and northern export supply
Shandong has timber-processing and furniture-production networks serving solid-wood furniture, panel casegoods and mixed home-furniture categories. Qingdao provides a useful export gateway for northern suppliers.
Best fit
- Solid-wood tables, beds and casegoods
- Panel furniture and cabinets
- Buyers consolidating other products in northern China
Main risk
Wood moisture content must be appropriate for the destination climate. Specify the measurement method and acceptable range, then record readings during production and before packing. For solid wood, confirm species, origin documentation, kiln-drying process and construction details. For composite panels, confirm the emissions requirement for the destination market.
8. Shengfang, Hebei: metal-and-glass furniture at volume
Shengfang is useful for value-oriented metal furniture and mixed metal/glass products. Its production network can suit dining sets, folding furniture, simple office pieces and commercial seating where repeatable metalwork is more important than complex joinery.
Best fit
- Powder-coated steel tables and chairs
- Metal-and-glass dining furniture
- Folding and space-saving products
- Large-volume, price-sensitive programs
Main risk
Buyers often focus on tube size and miss process quality. Check steel grade and wall thickness, weld continuity, sharp edges, pretreatment, coating thickness, adhesion, corrosion resistance, glass specification, load stability and carton protection.
9. Chengdu: panel furniture and whole-home customization
Chengdu and the wider Sichuan base serve large domestic demand and include panel-furniture and whole-home customization capacity. This can be relevant for apartment, residential and value-engineered packages, particularly for inland projects.
Best fit
- Wardrobes and storage systems
- Panel bedroom and living furniture
- Whole-home customization
- High-volume residential programs
Main risk
Some factories are optimized for China’s domestic market rather than export projects. Confirm export packing, multilingual shop drawings, destination compliance, container loading and document capability before treating domestic scale as international project readiness.
Choose the hub by product—not by a generic ranking
| If your package is mainly… | Start your search in… | Then verify… |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-category hotel or apartment furniture | Foshan/Shunde, then Dongguan | Factory identity, custom engineering and consolidation plan |
| High-spec custom hospitality furniture | Dongguan, Foshan | Finish control, mock-up approval and repeatability |
| Office chairs and task seating | Anji | Mechanism, gas lift, performance tests and spare parts |
| Metal-frame dining or folding furniture | Shengfang | Welding, coating, glass and packaging tests |
| Solid-wood casegoods | Dongguan or Shandong | Species, moisture, joinery and timber documentation |
| Outdoor collections | Zhejiang and selected Guangdong factories | Frame alloy, coating, fabric, corrosion and UV requirements |
| Panel wardrobes and residential packages | Chengdu, Foshan, Jiangsu or Zhejiang | Panel grade, emissions, hardware, edge sealing and installation drawings |
A good China furniture sourcing agent may search across two or three hubs rather than forcing every line item into one factory. Consolidation convenience matters, but it should not override product competence.
Factory, market supplier or trading company: know who is quoting
Many sourcing problems begin because the buyer assumes every furniture supplier in China has the same business model.
| Supplier type | What it is good at | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Factory | Production control, engineering depth and repeat orders in its specialty | Actual in-house processes, capacity, QC system and export entity |
| Market showroom | Fast product discovery and comparison | Who manufactures each item, customization limits and after-sales responsibility |
| Trading company | Broad selection and communication across categories | Supplier transparency, inspection rights, markup and warranty responsibility |
| Project sourcing/procurement company | BOQ coordination, supplier comparison, QC and consolidation | Scope, fee basis, reporting, conflict disclosure and ownership of specifications |
Buying direct is not always cheaper after engineering, inspection, consolidation and rework are included. The correct comparison is landed project value, not the first ex-factory price.
How to screen furniture manufacturers in China
Step 1: send a controlled RFQ package
Provide the same information to every shortlisted factory:
- Item code and quantity
- Dimensioned drawing
- Intended use and destination market
- Substrate, timber or metal specification
- Finish, colour and sheen reference
- Hardware and component requirements
- Fabric, leather or performance specification
- Required testing and certification
- Packaging and labeling requirements
- Delivery milestone and Incoterm
If you only send inspiration photos, suppliers will quote different constructions. The prices will look comparable but will not describe the same product. Use our guide to sending a BOQ or drawings to a China sourcing agent to structure the enquiry.
Step 2: verify legal and production identity
Ask for:
- Chinese business licence and registered company name
- Factory address and map pin
- Export company name
- Main production processes
- Subcontracted processes and locations
- Recent orders using similar construction
- Quality and social-compliance certificates relevant to your project
Certificates should be checked with the issuing body where possible. A PDF is not self-validating.
Step 3: audit the process that creates your risk
For a sofa, inspect frame assembly, webbing or spring installation, foam control, upholstery and final packing. For a veneer cabinet, inspect substrate preparation, veneer matching, sanding, finishing and hardware drilling. For a metal chair, inspect forming, welding, pretreatment and coating.
The right factory audit is product-specific. A generic tour can show a clean building without proving capability for your item.
Step 4: approve a sample and a signed specification together
A physical sample alone leaves hidden construction undefined. A written specification alone may not communicate touch, colour and workmanship. Use both.
Record:
- Approved dimensions and tolerances
- Material and component brands/codes
- Colour and gloss reference
- Workmanship acceptance points
- Test reports and expiry or model coverage
- Golden-sample photographs
- Packaging method
- Approved deviations
Step 5: inspect during production, not only at the end
Inspection timing should match failure risk:
- Incoming material check
- First-article or pre-production sample
- In-line inspection at a meaningful production stage
- Final random inspection
- Container-loading supervision when shipment risk justifies it
Our factory QC and inspection guide explains what each stage can and cannot catch.
Seven mistakes buyers make when selecting a China furniture factory
- Starting with a “top furniture manufacturers” list. Lists may measure brand visibility, domestic sales or website strength—not suitability for your construction.
- Treating a showroom as proof of production. Trace every selected item to its real factory.
- Comparing prices before normalizing specifications. Different substrates, foam, hardware and finishes can create large price gaps.
- Forcing one factory to make every category. A great sofa factory may be a poor cabinet or metal-furniture supplier.
- Skipping packaging engineering. Furniture can pass inspection and still arrive damaged.
- Accepting a certificate without checking product coverage. The tested model, material or factory may differ from the goods ordered.
- Choosing a hub before defining the package. Location follows product and risk; it should not lead them.
A practical sourcing sequence for multi-category projects
For hotel, apartment and commercial packages, use this order:
- Freeze the room or area schedule and assign item codes.
- Divide the BOQ into manufacturing families: upholstery, casegoods, seating, metal, outdoor and fixed furniture.
- Select one or more appropriate hubs for each family.
- Prequalify factories using legal, technical and capacity evidence.
- Issue a normalized RFQ.
- Compare total scope, exclusions, tooling, testing, packaging and delivery—not only unit price.
- Develop and approve samples.
- Place orders with documented inspection hold points.
- Consolidate only after compatibility, packing and schedule risks are reviewed.
This method may use more than one China furniture factory, but it reduces the much greater cost of assigning a specialized product to the wrong production system.
Frequently asked questions
Which city has the most furniture manufacturers in China?
There is no single useful answer for project sourcing because “most” does not mean “best matched.” Foshan/Shunde offers exceptional breadth and market access, while Dongguan, Anji, Shengfang, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Chengdu each have different specializations. Choose by product construction and project risk.
Is Foshan the best place to buy furniture from China?
Foshan is one of the most efficient places to compare a mixed furniture package, especially for hotels, apartments and villas. It is not automatically the best source for every office chair, metal product, high-spec custom piece or solid-wood program.
Are furniture suppliers in China usually factories?
No. A supplier may be a factory, showroom, exporter, trading company or procurement firm. Ask for the production address, legal company name, export entity and list of subcontracted processes.
Can one factory produce an entire hotel furniture package?
Some large factories can produce multiple categories, but most have a core specialty. A safer plan may combine a casegoods factory, an upholstery factory and specialist suppliers under one coordinated specification and QC system.
Should I use a top 50 furniture manufacturers list?
Use a list only to build an initial longlist. It cannot replace product-specific factory verification. The best supplier for your project is the one that can prove the required construction, finish, testing, capacity and schedule.
What is the difference between China furniture wholesale and project procurement?
Wholesale usually starts with existing products and standard commercial terms. Project procurement starts with a BOQ, drawings, destination requirements, samples, coordinated delivery and documented quality control. A showroom item may be a useful design reference but still require re-engineering for a project.
