Door Closer Manufacturers in China for Commercial and Hotel Projects: Five Sourcing Routes

Blog,Product Selection Guide

Door closer manufacturers in China include makers of surface-mounted closers, concealed and overhead-concealed closers, floor springs and patch fittings for glass doors, architectural hardware companies that supply closers inside hardware sets, and door factories that deliver doors with closers fitted. A door closer is a small part that every door in a hotel corridor or office core depends on, and each route supplies a different body, arm type and level of documentation under the same name.

This guide sorts the supply side into five sourcing routes so a procurement team can send one brief to the right makers and compare the answers fairly. It is not a ranking. No factory is named or scored here, and no claim is made about the closing force, durability or fire performance of any closer. The door schedule, the project specification and the local authority define those requirements, and each maker must show evidence for the exact model it offers. For related products, see our guides to fire-rated door hardware certification and fire-rated door manufacturers.

What should a door closer brief state?

A brief that says only “door closers, hold-open, 600 sets” produces quotations that cannot be compared, because door type, closer body and fixing are left open. State at least the following, copied from the door schedule and the hardware specification.

  • Door reference and quantity: each door type from the schedule with the quantity per type, so closers are priced against doors and not against a total.
  • Door and frame: leaf material and weight, width, handing and whether the door is fire-rated, as the schedule states it.
  • Closer type: surface-mounted, concealed in the leaf or frame, floor spring or patch fitting, with the drawing or the hardware set reference.
  • Adjustment and functions: the functions the specification names, such as adjustable closing, latching speed or hold-open, written as the specifier writes them.
  • Arm and mounting: arm type, mounting side and the bracket or plate the door and frame need.
  • Finish: finish name or code and colour reference, with an approved sample against each hardware set.
  • Evidence the project names: the test or certification the door schedule requires, with its standard and edition, set by the designer and the authority and not by the maker.
  • Fixings and templates: screws, templates and instructions supplied with each closer.
  • Packing: how closers are packed and marked by hardware set and floor, and which parts ship separately.

Five sourcing routes for door closers

1. Surface-mounted closer makers

Surface closers are made in volume by hardware makers with their own casting, machining and spring lines. Ask for the model description with the door weight and width range the maker states, the arm type, the finish and a sample that can be fixed to a trial door. This route suits corridor, office and apartment doors where one model covers many doors.

2. Concealed and overhead-concealed closer makers

Concealed closers sit inside the door leaf or the frame, so the door and frame have to be machined for them. Ask for the cut-out drawing, the door and frame thicknesses the model suits and a sample with its template, and agree in writing who machines the door. Confirm that the door maker and the closer maker are working to the same drawing.

3. Floor spring and patch fitting makers

Glass doors and heavy leaves use floor springs, patch fittings and pivots. Ask for the load description the maker gives for the model, the floor box drawing, the glass thickness the patches suit and a working sample. See our guide to glass hardware and aluminium glass doors.

4. Architectural hardware set suppliers

Some suppliers quote the whole hardware set: hinges, locks, closers, stops and handles. This puts one party in charge of the set and one finish across it, but ask the supplier to price the closer on its own line and to name the maker so that evidence can be checked. See our guide to window and door hardware sourcing.

5. Door factories supplying doors with closers fitted

Door factories can fit closers at the factory and deliver doors ready to hang. Ask which closer model goes on which door, who drills and fits it and how the fitted closer is protected in transit. For the door side, see interior wood door manufacturers.

How to compare door closer quotations

  • Model and body: the model named on each line and the door weight and width range the maker states.
  • Type and arm: surface, concealed or floor spring, with the arm and plate described.
  • Finish: finish name or code on each line.
  • Included parts: arms, plates, covers, templates and fixings listed with quantities.
  • Units of measure: price per closer or per set, and what a set contains.
  • Evidence: which test or certification reports are offered for the exact model, with the date and the body that issued them.
  • Exclusions and substitutions: any change of model, finish or arm the maker proposes.

A quotation that is cheaper on one line may be thinner on another. Read the descriptions side by side before reading the totals.

Samples, approval and acceptance on delivery

Approve a closer sample fixed to a trial door of the same weight and width before bulk production, and record the approval in writing against the hardware set. Keep the approved sample as the reference for the bulk order, and ask the door maker to confirm in writing that its machining matches the sample and template.

On delivery, check a sample of cartons against the order: model, finish, arm, accessories and quantity per hardware set. Note any damage or difference in writing on the day with photographs, so the maker can respond while the evidence is fresh.

What evidence to ask each route for

Evidence should be requested for the exact model, not for a product family. Ask for the following in writing and keep the answers with the quotation.

  • Surface closer makers: model description, door weight and width range, finish description and a sample.
  • Concealed closer makers: cut-out drawing, door and frame thickness range and a sample with its template.
  • Floor spring makers: load description, floor box drawing and a working sample.
  • Hardware set suppliers: a separate product sheet for the closer, the name of its maker and a sample.
  • Door factories: the closer model fitted to each door type and the fitting method.

Specification gaps to close before quotation

A quotation cannot answer the questions below for itself. Check that the brief answers these questions before it goes out.

  • Which doors take which closer type, and is it written in the hardware set?
  • Does the door schedule name a certification or test for fire-rated doors, in which standard and edition?
  • Who machines the door or frame for a concealed closer?
  • Which finish and which arm are drawn, and on which sample?
  • Who supplies fixings, templates and covers?
  • How are cartons marked by hardware set and floor?

Next steps for a door hardware package

Send each maker the same brief and ask for answers in writing, line by line, with samples or documents before bulk production. FBM Sourcing manages China procurement packages for overseas projects; furniture-only packages are also run through FBM Furniture.

Questions buyers ask about door closers from China

Can two door closer quotations be compared by unit price alone?

No. A unit price says nothing about the model, the door weight range, the arm or the finish. Compare the model, type, arm, finish and included parts on each line before comparing totals.

Who decides which closer a fire-rated door needs?

The door schedule, the designer and the local authority decide. Name the requirement and its edition in the brief and ask each maker to show evidence for the exact model and door.

Should arms and covers be quoted with the closers?

Quote arms, plates and covers on separate lines with quantities, even when one maker supplies everything, so that missing parts appear before the order and not on site.

Do closers need a sample before ordering?

Yes. Fix a sample to a trial door of the same weight and width and keep it as the reference for the bulk order.

How does FBM Sourcing support this kind of package?

We review the brief, collect comparable quotations and manage the package for the project. For suppliers you nominate, we charge a 5% commission; for products we source for you, we quote a direct price. Our own team performs one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment, and the client’s project team is welcome to attend.
