Hospital beds from China come from three kinds of manufacturer: medical device groups that hold registrations for electric hospital beds, ward and nursing bed factories in medical device clusters such as Jizhou District in Hengshui, Hebei, and component makers that supply the actuators inside electric beds. Three Chinese listed companies can be tied to hospital beds through their own 2025 annual reports: Shinva Medical Instrument (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 600587), Cofoe Medical Technology (Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 301087) and, on the component side, Zhejiang Jiecang Linear Motion Technology (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 603583). For any bed model, the evidence matters more than the maker’s name: which edition of the medical bed standard it was tested to, and which destination-market registration it holds.
This round-up is written for developers, general contractors, builders, commercial project owners, interior design and construction companies and FF&E solution providers delivering hospitals, clinics, aged care and senior living buildings. It is descriptive, not a ranking, and FBM Sourcing is not affiliated with any company named here.
What Counts as a Hospital Bed on a Healthcare Project?
In the United States and the European Union, for example, an adjustable bed intended for medical purposes is regulated as a medical device. The current international standard, IEC 80601-2-52:2026, applies to the basic safety and essential performance of medical beds intended for adults, both electrical and non-electrical (manual), with or without adjustable functions. Its scope also sets out what it does not cover, which is a useful way to split a healthcare schedule:
- Adult medical beds (ward beds, nursing and long-term care beds): IEC 80601-2-52.
- Beds for children and adults with atypical anatomies: a separate standard, IEC 80601-2-89.
- Speciality mattresses: the ISO 20342 series.
- Stretchers and examination tables: outside the bed standard’s scope.
This article covers hospital beds, nursing beds and care beds only. The wider package of bedside cabinets, overbed tables, patient chairs and nurse station casework is covered in our round-up of healthcare and aged care furniture manufacturers in China. One more boundary: an operating table is a different device from a ward bed, and a company that makes operating tables does not, by that fact alone, make hospital beds.

Listed Companies with a Documented Hospital Bed Line
Each company below is named because its own 2025 annual report, filed with its stock exchange, mentions hospital beds or nursing beds, and because the exchange’s official company data shows it as currently listed.
Shinva Medical Instrument Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 600587)
Based in Zibo, Shandong, Shinva reports four product groups: medical device manufacturing, pharmaceutical equipment, medical trade and medical services. Beds are not a segment of their own. In its table of registration certificates newly obtained in 2025, the annual report lists an electric hospital bed, Class II, under the patient-carrying devices category, obtained in July 2025.
Role: a hospital equipment group that has added a registered electric bed. Evidence to request: the Chinese registration certificate for the exact model, the destination-market clearance, and the test report naming the model and standard edition.
Cofoe Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 301087)
Cofoe describes itself as a home medical device company with five product areas: health monitoring, rehabilitation aids, respiratory support, medical care and traditional Chinese medicine therapy. Its 2025 annual report lists nursing beds within rehabilitation aids, alongside wheelchairs, walkers and patient transfer devices, and in its table of overseas registrations lists an electric hospital bed as a newly added EU registration, Class I.
Role: a home and care device maker whose bed line leans towards nursing and long-term care. Evidence to request: the EU declaration of conformity, the declared class, and confirmation that the intended use matches the ward type on your schedule.
Zhejiang Jiecang Linear Motion Technology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 603583)
Jiecang does not make beds. Its 2025 annual report describes its main business as linear drive systems, medical device components and functional furniture, and names electric hospital beds, electric nursing beds, patient transfer devices and electric wheelchairs as core end products for its drives in the medical and care field. It is included because the drive system is a bought-in part that affects how an electric bed is tested and maintained.
Role: actuator supplier to bed manufacturers. Evidence to request: from the bed factory, the actuator and control box models fitted, and confirmation that the test report was issued with that drive system installed.
Which Manufacturer Types Supply Hospital Beds Beyond the Listed Companies?
Many hospital bed manufacturers in China are private companies that do not publish annual reports, so they are easier to describe by type and cluster than by name.
Ward and nursing bed factories in medical device clusters
The clearest example is Jizhou District in Hengshui, Hebei. A Hebei Daily article republished by the Hebei Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology in September 2025 describes the district’s medical device and rehabilitation aids industry as more than 50 years old, with products including wheelchairs, hospital beds, rehabilitation equipment and electronic instruments, and with nursing beds among its four leading products by domestic sales. The same article reports more than 290 manufacturers in the district and a shared coating plant used by over 20 of them. In a cluster like this, two beds that look identical may come from different workshops, so evidence has to be tied to the named factory and model.
Medical equipment groups and care bed makers
Diversified hospital equipment groups add beds to a wider ward and theatre range; the question is whether the bed is made in their own plant and which registration covers it. Home medical and rehabilitation brands also make electric care beds, some designed to look less clinical, which can suit aged care rooms. A bed declared for home use is not automatically suitable for an institutional ward. Our guide to senior living FF&E procurement from China covers how care beds sit within a resident room.
Component and mattress suppliers
Actuators, control boxes, castors and mattresses are usually bought in by the bed factory. A change of actuator or mattress between sample and bulk order can change the product that was tested, so component models should be recorded against the approved sample.

Which Standard Applies to a Medical Bed in 2026?
According to the ISO catalogue, IEC 80601-2-52:2026, Particular requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of medical beds for adults, was published in May 2026 as edition 1, and IEC 60601-2-52:2009, its Amendment 1:2015 and Corrigendum 1:2010 are listed as withdrawn. Beds for children and adults with atypical anatomies are covered by IEC 80601-2-89:2025, published in December 2025.
- Many reports a factory can show today will cite IEC 60601-2-52:2009 with Amendment 1:2015, because the new edition is only months old. Whether the destination regulator and hospital operator accept that edition, and until when, is a question for the project’s regulatory adviser.
- The bed standard’s scope refers back to IEC 60601-1, Medical electrical equipment, Part 1: General requirements for basic safety and essential performance. For an electric bed, ask whether the evidence covers IEC 60601-1 as well, and which edition of each.
- A bed sold for both children and adults needs to be looked at against both standards.
For how destination certification schemes differ on healthcare projects, see SABER, CE and other certifications for school and hospital projects.
What Do Destination Regulators Require for Imported Hospital Beds?
A Chinese registration shows a bed is legally made and sold in China. It does not replace clearance in the destination market.
United States
- 21 CFR 880.5100: an AC-powered adjustable hospital bed, with a built-in electric motor and patient-operated remote controls, is Class II (special controls), exempt from premarket notification subject to 21 CFR 880.9.
- 21 CFR 880.5110 and 880.5120: hydraulic and manual adjustable hospital beds operated by an attendant are Class I (general controls).
- 21 CFR 807.40: a foreign establishment making a device imported into the United States must register, list the device and name a United States agent.
- FDA’s March 2006 guidance, Hospital Bed System Dimensional and Assessment Guidance to Reduce Entrapment, identifies bed openings that are potential entrapment areas and recommends dimensional criteria.
European Union
- Medical devices fall under Regulation (EU) 2017/745. Under its Article 11, a manufacturer not established in a Member State must designate a sole authorised representative before placing a device on the Union market.
- Manufacturers affix the CE marking and keep the technical documentation and EU declaration of conformity available to the authorities. The class follows the rules in Annex VIII; ask which class the factory has declared and why.
Australia, the Gulf states and Canada run their own registration systems. Confirm with the hospital operator or regulatory adviser which registration the bed must carry, and who will hold it, before the model is fixed.
How Do Hospital Beds Fit into the Rest of a Healthcare Package?
Beds rarely travel alone. The ward schedule groups the bed with its mattress, bedside cabinet, overbed table and patient chair, while the building also needs doors, flooring, sanitary ware and casework. Beds and mattresses come from medical device factories; casework and seating come from contract furniture factories. Our guide to hospital furniture procurement from China explains how the clinical and non-clinical sides are split, and the China hospital and healthcare furniture market overview covers where the furniture side is made.
- Room data decides the bed. Headwall layouts, door clear openings and lift sizes limit bed dimensions, so fix the model before the casework around it is detailed.
- Accessories are part of the model. Side rail types, bed extensions, castors and handsets change the tested configuration; name them on the schedule.
- Loading is planned across factories. Sometimes, on a large project, the hospital beds alone fill full containers; sometimes the hospital beds share containers with the other product categories of the same project; and sometimes, in one batch, we combine a dozen or more product categories from several projects of the same client into a few containers — always full containers, and for us this is routine, well-practised work.
Evidence to Request for Each Bed Model
- Medical bed test report naming the exact model, the standard and edition, and the accredited laboratory that issued it.
- Electrical safety evidence against IEC 60601-1 for electric beds, for the same model and drive system.
- Destination registration: US establishment registration and device listing; EU declaration of conformity and authorised representative; or the local registration the operator requires.
- Chinese registration or filing certificate showing the manufacturer and device category.
- Component list: actuator, control box, castor and mattress models as tested.
- Safe working load and dimensional drawings, including side rail gaps, for the operator’s own entrapment review.
How FBM Sourcing Works on a Hospital Bed Package
FBM Sourcing works as the client’s sourcing partner in China on the whole healthcare package, not only the beds. From the schedule and room data, we identify which manufacturer types can make each model, request the evidence above for the exact configuration, and set the answers side by side so the project team and operator can decide. The approved configuration, including component models, is recorded against each bed line.
When production is complete, our own team carries out inspection at the factory before shipment, with photo and video records, and an inspection report goes to the client before the balance is paid. Which registration a bed needs in the destination market is decided by the hospital operator and the project’s regulatory adviser; our role is to make sure the factory’s evidence matches what they ask for.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Chinese listed companies make hospital beds?
From their 2025 annual reports, Shinva Medical Instrument (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 600587) registered an electric hospital bed in China in 2025, and Cofoe Medical Technology (Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 301087) lists nursing beds in its rehabilitation aids range and an electric hospital bed among new EU registrations. Zhejiang Jiecang Linear Motion Technology (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 603583) supplies actuators for electric hospital and nursing beds but does not make beds.
Is IEC 60601-2-52 still the current standard for hospital beds?
No. According to the ISO catalogue, IEC 80601-2-52:2026 for adult medical beds was published in May 2026 and IEC 60601-2-52:2009 with its 2015 amendment is listed as withdrawn; beds for children and adults with atypical anatomies fall under IEC 80601-2-89:2025.
How is an electric hospital bed classified in the United States?
Under 21 CFR 880.5100, an AC-powered adjustable hospital bed is Class II with special controls and is exempt from premarket notification subject to 21 CFR 880.9, while hydraulic and manual adjustable beds are Class I under 880.5110 and 880.5120.
Can nursing beds for aged care come from the same factory as ward beds?
Often they can: clusters such as Jizhou District in Hengshui, Hebei, list both hospital beds and nursing beds among their products. What matters is the intended use declared for each model, because a bed declared for home care is not automatically suitable for a ward, and each model needs its own test report and destination registration.
Why does the actuator matter on an electric hospital bed?
Actuators and the control box drive every electric movement of the bed and are usually bought in from a specialist supplier. The safety test report covers a particular configuration, so a different drive system in the bulk order means the product is no longer the one tested.
