Window hardware from China decides how a window package performs after handover more than the profile or the glass ever will. Handles, friction stays, rollers and locking gears are the moving parts — cycled every day, exposed to coastal air, and operated by people who did not read the maintenance manual. The Hardware Schedule: What Each Component Must State
Friction Stays and Hinges
Rated by sash weight and tested in salt-spray hours. A 600 mm stay carrying a heavy laminated sash is a different product from the visually identical light-duty version. Specify: stainless grade (304 standard, 316 coastal), sash-weight rating, and cycle test count.
Handles and Cranks
Casement handles, cockspur handles and folding cranks in powder-coat or anodized finishes. For hotels and rentals, lockable variants and key-alike programs belong in the original order — retrofitting them is disproportionately expensive.
Multi-Point Locking Gears
Espagnolette systems must match the profile’s euro-groove geometry exactly; this is a system decision made at profile selection, not a line item to be swapped later. Engagement smoothness is a cycle-test item at inspection.
Rollers
Sliding window and door rollers in nylon, brass or stainless, matched to sash weight and track profile. Under-specified rollers are the single most common cause of “the sliders feel cheap” feedback at handover.

Stopping Substitution Between Contract and Container
The standard failure mode is simple: the sample window carries the branded stay, the production run carries the lookalike. Prevention is contractual and physical — the purchase contract names brand, model and grade per component with substitution prohibited, and the pre-shipment inspection verifies markings and cycle-tests hardware on production windows, not the sample. Ordering Hardware: Fitted, Loose or Both
Factory-fitted hardware is the default and the right answer for fit and warranty. Add loose stock in the same order: 3–5% handles, stays and rollers as maintenance spares, packed and labelled separately — couriering a single carton of handles to site a year later costs more than the spares did.
