Laundry Cabinet from China: What Apartment Developers and Project Buyers Need to Know

Sourcing laundry cabinets from China alongside kitchen and bathroom cabinets is standard practice for apartment developers and hotel project procurement. Chinese cabinet factories in Foshan produce laundry cabinetry to the same substrate and hardware standards as kitchen cabinets — and in most cases, laundry cabinets are produced in the same factory run and shipped in the same container as kitchen and bathroom vanity, reducing per-unit freight cost across all three wet area categories.

This guide covers specification, factory coordination, and what to expect when including laundry cabinets in a China procurement package.

Why Laundry Cabinets Are Best Sourced Alongside Kitchen Cabinets

There are two practical reasons to co-source laundry cabinets with kitchen cabinets from the same Chinese factory:

Finish consistency: Apartment buyers and hotel operators notice when the laundry cabinet door does not match the kitchen cabinet door. Sourcing both from the same factory run — same lacquer batch, same door profile, same hardware — eliminates this risk. Sourcing laundry cabinets from a different factory almost always produces a visible finish variation, even when the specification appears identical on paper.

Freight cost: A 40HQ container carries approximately 25–35 apartment kitchen sets. Adding laundry cabinets to the same container costs almost nothing in incremental freight — the container space is being paid for regardless. Sourcing laundry cabinets separately means paying a second container freight bill for a relatively small volume of product.

Laundry Cabinet Types for Apartment Projects

Standard apartment laundry fitout from China includes:

Under-bench cabinet: Typically 600mm wide × 870mm high × 500–550mm deep, fitting below a laundry tub or stone benchtop. Two-door or one-door-one-drawer configuration. This is the most common laundry cabinet unit in Australian apartment developments.

Overhead wall cabinet: 600–900mm wide × 300–400mm high, mounted above washing machine or bench. Two-door configuration. Provides storage for laundry products and spare linen.

Broom cupboard: Full-height (2000–2100mm) narrow cabinet (300–400mm wide) for cleaning equipment storage. Often fitted with a hanging rail at high level and a shelf at mid-height.

Linen cupboard: Full-height unit with adjustable shelving, 600–900mm wide. Common in apartments with separate laundry rooms or linen storage requirements.

Washer/dryer enclosure: Cabinet surround designed around stacked washer and dryer dimensions, with trim kit and ventilation provision. Requires confirmed appliance model dimensions at brief stage.

Specification Points for Apartment Laundry Cabinets

When co-specifying laundry cabinets with kitchen cabinets from China:

Match the kitchen door profile: Specify the same door profile (slab, shaker, routed) and the same surface finish code as the kitchen. Ask the factory to provide a sample of the laundry door alongside the kitchen door sample for direct comparison before production approval.

Moisture-resistant substrate: Laundry rooms have elevated humidity. Specify 18mm moisture-resistant MDF or particleboard for the laundry carcase — the same spec as the kitchen carcase. Standard particleboard will swell and delaminate over time in laundry conditions.

Benchtop coordination: Specify the laundry benchtop to match the kitchen benchtop in colour and material. A laminate kitchen benchtop with a stone laundry benchtop looks inconsistent. A stone kitchen benchtop with a laminate laundry benchtop looks like a cost-saving shortcut.

Plumbing cutouts: Provide plumbing rough-in drawings showing the pipe locations for the laundry tub waste, hot and cold water supply, and washing machine connections. The factory needs these dimensions to position cutouts accurately.

Appliance clearances: Confirm the washing machine and dryer model dimensions and confirm the cabinet height allows installation of the appliances with door clearance above. A common error is specifying overhead cabinet height without allowing for appliance door opening arc.

Hotel Laundry Application

Hotel back-of-house laundry cabinetry is typically specified for staff facilities, housekeeping service areas, and linen rooms. Requirements differ from residential:

  • Heavy-duty drawer runners rated for commercial use (not residential-grade Blum Tandem)
  • Lockable doors or drawers for linen security
  • Open shelving configurations for fast access during service operations
  • Stainless steel or high-pressure laminate surfaces for hygiene and cleaning resistance

Hotel back-of-house cabinetry is often specified at a lower finish tier than guestroom FF&E — budget tier substrate with commercial-grade hardware is appropriate for most back-of-house laundry applications.

Lead Times and Container Planning

When co-ordering laundry cabinets with kitchen cabinets:

  • No additional lead time — laundry cabinets are produced in the same factory run as kitchen cabinets
  • No additional container booking required — laundry cabinets fill remaining space in the kitchen cabinet container
  • Sample approval covers laundry door profile alongside kitchen door profile — one approval round, not two

For standalone laundry cabinet orders (without kitchen cabinets), minimum order quantity is typically 1 container. Standalone laundry cabinet orders are rare — they are almost always co-ordered with kitchen or bathroom vanity from the same factory.
