Hotel minibar and guest room appliance manufacturers in China include minibar and small refrigerator makers, in-room safe makers, kettle and small appliance factories, hair dryer and bathroom appliance suppliers and full hotel OS&E suppliers. A hotel buys these items by the thousand for identical rooms, so the brief has to describe one unit that can be repeated, tested and replaced.
This guide sorts the supply side into five sourcing routes so a procurement team can send one brief to the right makers and compare the answers fairly. It is not a ranking. No factory is named or scored here, and no claim is made about the efficiency, noise level, safety or electrical compliance of any product. The brand standard and the local rules must define those requirements, and each maker must show evidence for the exact model it offers. For how OS&E sits next to furniture and fixtures, see our guide to FF&E versus OS&E in hotel procurement and our guide to voltage and electrical standards for lighting and appliances.
What should a guest room appliance brief state?
A brief that says only “minibar, 40 litre, black, 300 units” produces quotations that cannot be compared. State at least the following.
- Unit schedule: one line per appliance and room type, with the hotel’s item codes and the quantity per floor or phase.
- Capacity and size: the internal capacity and the outer dimensions the joinery opening allows, drawn against the guestroom cabinet.
- Cooling type: the type the brand names, such as absorption or compressor, and the operating conditions the room will present.
- Noise: whether the brand sets a noise limit, and how and where it is measured.
- Supply and plug: the voltage, frequency and plug type of the destination, and the cable length and exit side.
- Finish and front: door finish, handle, hinge side and whether the door is reversible or takes a panel to match the cabinet.
- Brand standard: the hotel brand’s appliance requirements, quoted by document name and edition.
- Documents: which product documents and test reports the project asks for, listed per item, and the language they must arrive in.
Five sourcing routes for guest room appliances
1. Minibar and small refrigerator makers
These makers build the cooling unit and the cabinet. The cooling type decides running noise and how the unit behaves in a warm room, so ask which type each model uses and how noise is measured. Request a sample unit for a night test in a mock-up room, and ask for a drawing that shows the ventilation clearance the unit needs.
2. In-room safe makers
Safe makers supply keypad or card safes sized for a laptop. Ask for internal and external dimensions, the opening and locking method, the power source and what happens when the battery fails, and who can reset a locked safe. Compare the fixing method with the cabinet drawing.
3. Kettle and small appliance factories
Kettles, coffee machines, toasters and similar items are produced in volume by appliance factories that also serve retail brands. Ask for the model description, the plug and cable details for the destination, and the documents the specification names. Hotels often want a custom colour or logo, which changes minimum quantities, so state it early.
4. Hair dryer and bathroom appliance suppliers
Wall-mounted hair dryers, shaver sockets and similar items sit in wet or damp zones. Ask the supplier which zone each model is designed for, how it is fixed, and which documents it provides. The electrical design of the bathroom is set by the project, not the appliance maker.
5. Full hotel OS&E suppliers
Some suppliers offer appliances together with linen, tableware and other operating supplies. This route gives one party to deal with and one shipment, but ask the supplier to show capability for each product group and to quote each group on its own line.
How to compare appliance quotations
- What is included: the appliance, cable and plug, accessories and packing, shown in separate columns.
- Unit-by-unit match: each line tied to an item code on your schedule, so missing items show up.
- Model and options: the exact model quoted, with the cooling type, colour and door options stated.
- Plug and voltage: the plug type, voltage and frequency stated for the destination country.
- Documents: the product documents the maker will provide for each model, listed in the quotation.
- Packing and marking: how units are packed, and how cartons are marked by floor or room type.
- Exclusions and substitutions: any change of component or model the maker proposes.

Hotel projects: what changes with appliances
Appliances differ from furniture because they are electrical and are used every day by guests who did not choose them. A faulty unit becomes a guest complaint within hours, and a hotel with hundreds of rooms cannot replace units one at a time without a plan. Agree before the order how defective units are reported, how replacements are supplied, and what spare units the project wants on site.
The rules for electrical goods differ by country, so the destination decides what applies. State the destination in the brief and ask each maker what evidence it can provide for the exact model offered. FBM Sourcing does not state which rules apply to any project. For related room products, see our guide to hotel room furniture from China.
Samples, approval and acceptance on delivery
Agree the approval route before the order. Ask for a sample of each appliance, test it in a mock-up room with the real cabinet, and record the approval in writing. Keep the approved sample as the reference for bulk production.
On delivery, check a sample of cartons against the order: model, colour, plug type, accessories and packing. Note any difference in writing the same day and send photographs, so the maker can respond while the evidence is fresh.
What evidence to ask each route for
Evidence should be requested for the exact model, not for a product family. For each route above, ask for the following in writing and keep the answers with the quotation.
- Minibar makers: the cooling type, a clearance drawing, the noise measuring method and a sample unit.
- Safe makers: dimensions, the opening and reset method, the power source and the fixing details.
- Small appliance factories: the model description, plug and cable details and the documents the specification names.
- Bathroom appliance suppliers: the zone each model is designed for, the fixing method and its documents.
- Full OS&E suppliers: a separate product sheet and sample for each product group quoted, so each can be judged on its own.
Specification gaps to close before quotation
A quotation cannot answer the questions below for itself. Before sending the enquiry, check that the brief answers these questions.
- Which hotel brand document sets the appliance requirement, and which edition applies?
- Is the cabinet opening drawn, with the ventilation clearance the unit needs?
- Is the cooling type and the noise measuring method stated?
- Are the voltage, frequency and plug type of the destination stated?
- Is a custom colour, logo or door panel required, and does it change the minimum quantity?
- How are defective units reported, and what spares are wanted on site?
Next steps for an OS&E appliance package
Send each maker the same brief: the unit schedule, brand requirements, destination, cabinet drawing and the documents the project requires. Ask for answers in writing, item by item, and request samples before bulk production. FBM Sourcing also runs FBM Furniture’s hotel guestroom furniture pages for furniture-only packages.
Questions buyers ask about hotel minibars and room appliances from China
What should we state about the cooling type of a minibar?
Name the type the hotel brand requires and the room conditions the unit will operate in, and ask each maker to state its type, how noise is measured and what clearance the unit needs.
Who decides the electrical requirements for appliances?
The destination country and the hotel brand set them. Name the destination in the brief and ask each maker for evidence for the exact model offered.
Can appliances be made in a custom colour or with a logo?
Often yes, but it can change the minimum quantity and the lead time of the maker. State it in the brief so every maker quotes the same option.
Can one supplier provide appliances and other operating supplies?
Some can. One supplier simplifies coordination, but ask it to show capability for each product group and to quote each group on its own line.
How does FBM Sourcing support an OS&E package?
We review the brief, collect comparable quotations and manage the package for the project. For suppliers you nominate, we charge a 5% commission; for products we source for you, we quote a direct price. Our own team performs one inspection after bulk production is complete and before shipment, and the client’s project team is welcome to attend.
