Curtain Track and Curtain Rail Manufacturers in China for Hotel, Apartment and Healthcare Projects: Five Sourcing Routes

Blog,Product Selection Guide

Curtain track manufacturers in China include extrusion makers that produce aluminium ceiling and wall tracks, workshops that form bendable tracks for curved openings and bed screens, makers of motorised tracks together with their motors and controls, metal pole and finial workshops, and hardware system suppliers that bundle tracks, runners and accessories into one offer. In a hotel guestroom, an apartment, an office or a care home bedroom, the track carries the curtain, and it has to be fixed to the ceiling, the wall or a recess in a way that suits the building. Each route supplies a different profile, runner and fixing under the same word “track”.

This guide sorts the supply side into five sourcing routes so a procurement team can send one brief to the right makers and compare the answers fairly. It is not a ranking. No factory is named or scored here, and no claim is made about the load capacity, noise, fire performance or cycle life of any track. The curtain fabric supplier, the project’s engineer and the local authority define those requirements, and each maker must show evidence for the exact system it offers. For the wider window-covering decision, see our guides to blackout curtains, roller blinds and motorised shades for hotels and roller blind manufacturers in China. Where a system uses operating cords, our readings of Canada’s Corded Window Coverings Regulations and 16 CFR Part 1260 show how two markets word their rules; whether a particular curtain system falls within either is a question for the project’s adviser.

What should a curtain track brief state?

A brief that says only “curtain track, white, 300 rooms” produces quotations that cannot be compared, because the profile, the runner and the fixing are left open. State at least the following, copied from the interior drawings, the curtain schedule and the ceiling plans.

  • Item code and run length: each opening or room type from the drawings, with the straight run length per opening and the number of openings per room type, so tracks are priced against locations and not against a total length.
  • Fixing position: ceiling, wall, recessed pocket or pelmet, and what the track is fixed into, such as plasterboard, concrete, timber or a suspended ceiling grid, so that the brackets and fixings suit the substrate.
  • Curtain build: the fabric, lining and heading type as stated by the curtain supplier. The track has to suit that curtain, so the curtain supplier states the weight and the maker sizes the track against it.
  • Operation: hand-drawn, drawn with a baton or wand, cord-operated or motorised. For motorised tracks, say who supplies the motor, the power unit and the control.
  • Stack and overlap: the space available for the curtain to stack on each side of the opening, and whether two curtains overlap at the centre.
  • Bends and corners: for each bend, the radius or the shape drawn, and whether it is formed from one length or joined from pieces.
  • Joints and piece length: the longest piece that suits the packing and the route into the building, and where the joints may fall along a long run.
  • Runners and accessories: runner or carrier type, master carriers, end stops, hooks or tapes, written per item code.
  • Finish: anodised, powder coated or painted, with the colour reference, against each item code.
  • Packing and marking: pieces bundled and labelled by room type or floor, with the item code and length on each bundle.

Five sourcing routes for curtain tracks and rails

1. Aluminium extrusion track makers

These makers supply straight and bent aluminium tracks for ceiling or wall fixing, together with runners, end stops and brackets. Ask for the section drawing of each profile, the finish description, a finished sample length with a runner fitted, and the list of what each item code includes. This route suits guestrooms, apartments and offices where a run of identical openings repeats across floors.

2. Bendable and cubicle track makers

Some workshops form tracks that follow curves, corners and room-dividing layouts, including the ceiling tracks that carry privacy curtains around beds. Ask for the layout drawing the track will be made from, how bends are formed, where joints fall and how the track is hung from the ceiling. This route suits wards, care home bedrooms and any plan where the track is a shape, not a straight line.

3. Motorised track makers

These makers supply tracks together with a motor, a power unit and a control, and some add the connection to a room control system. Ask for the list of parts in each set, who supplies the power unit and the remote or wall control, the wiring diagram for the exact model and a video of the set running with a sample curtain. Agree who commissions the system on site and who tests it with the room control.

4. Metal pole and finial workshops

Workshops that turn and finish metal poles, finials, brackets and rings supply decorative rods for lobbies, restaurants and suites. Ask for the drawing with the tube size as offered, the bracket spacing the maker proposes, a finish sample and the description of the rings or the glides. This route suits spaces where the rod is seen and the finish has to match the fittings.

5. Curtain hardware system suppliers

Suppliers that bundle tracks, runners, tapes, hooks and accessories may also supply the made-up curtains. This gives one party for the whole window treatment, but ask the supplier to quote each track type on its own line, to say which items it makes and which it buys in, and to provide the maker’s documents for each exact track model.

How to compare curtain track quotations

  • Profile: the section drawing for each model, so that two tracks of the same length are read against what each contains.
  • Runner and carrier: the type and the number per metre or per opening, as offered, including the master carrier.
  • Fixing: brackets, clips or recess fittings listed per item code, and the substrate they are offered for.
  • Bends: priced per bend, with the shape drawn, and not folded into a single price per metre.
  • Finish: anodised, powder coated or painted, with the colour reference.
  • Motorised sets: each part named, including the power unit and the control, and the parts that are not included.
  • Units of measure: price per opening, per metre or per set, stated on every line.
  • Exclusions and substitutions: any change of profile, runner, bracket or finish that the maker proposes.

Read each line against the section drawing before reading the total.

A ward track and a guestroom track are different briefs

A guestroom track follows a window opening and a pelmet or recess that the interior designer has drawn. A ward or care home track follows the bed positions on the plan, so its layout may be a rectangle, a U or a run of linked sections, and it hangs from the ceiling. The same maker may be right for one and wrong for the other, so send each brief separately and ask each maker to say which of the two it has made.

For healthcare and care projects, the client sets its own requirements for fabrics, cleaning and fixings, and its advisers state them. The track maker supplies the track and the evidence for the track, not those requirements. Put the client’s document references into the brief, and ask the maker to confirm in writing which of them its track is offered against. For the furniture side of such projects, see our guide to healthcare furniture manufacturers in China.

Coordinating tracks with ceilings, pelmets and the curtain workroom

Three parties meet at a curtain track: the ceiling or wall contractor who prepares the fixing, the track maker and the workroom that makes the curtains. Ask the workroom to confirm the track item code against the curtain schedule before production, so that the heading type, the runner and the stack space agree. Ask the ceiling contractor to confirm where blocking, a recess or a pelmet will be provided, and agree in writing whether the track is fixed before or after the ceiling is finished.

Where a track is hung from a suspended ceiling, the hanger positions and the ceiling grid have to be settled in the same drawing. Ask the maker to mark hanger or bracket positions on the layout and send it to the ceiling contractor for approval.

Samples, approval and acceptance on delivery

Approve a finished sample of each track type, with a runner and an end stop fitted and a sample curtain hung from it, before bulk production. Check how the curtain moves along the sample, how the runner stops at the end and how the finish looks beside the other fittings in the room. Record the approval in writing against the item code and keep the sample as the reference for the bulk order.

On delivery, check a sample of bundles against the order: item code, length, finish, quantity per floor and accessories. Note any damage or difference in writing on the day with photographs, so the maker can respond while the evidence is fresh. Before shipment our own team checks quantities, finish, labels and packing against the signed-off specification, and you receive a QC report with photos and video.

What evidence to ask each route for

Evidence should be requested for the exact model and system, not for a product family. Ask for the following in writing and keep the answers with the quotation.

  • Aluminium extrusion makers: the section drawing, the finish description and the documents offered for the exact profile.
  • Bendable and cubicle track makers: the layout drawing, the description of how bends and joints are made and the hanging method.
  • Motorised track makers: the parts list, the wiring diagram and the documents offered for the exact set.
  • Metal pole workshops: the drawing with sizes as offered and a photograph of a finished pole of the same model.
  • System suppliers: the maker’s own documents for each exact track model, not the trader’s summary.

Specification gaps to close before quotation

The questions below are ones a quotation cannot answer for itself. Check that the brief answers them before it goes out.

  • Which curtain weight and heading type does each track have to suit, and who states it?
  • Which openings need bends, and what shape does each one take?
  • Is each track fixed to the ceiling, the wall or a recess, and what is it fixed into?
  • Who supplies the motor, the power unit and the control for motorised openings, and who commissions them?
  • Where do the joints fall on long runs, and how are the bundles marked by floor?
  • Which finish and colour does each location take?

Next steps for a curtain track package

Send each maker the same brief and ask for answers in writing, line by line, with samples or documents before bulk production. FBM Sourcing manages China procurement packages for overseas projects; furniture-only packages are also run through FBM Furniture.

Questions buyers ask about curtain tracks from China

Who decides the weight a curtain track must carry?

The curtain supplier states the weight of the curtain, lining and heading for each opening, and the track maker shows evidence for the exact track at that weight. Put the curtain build into the brief so that every maker quotes against the same load.

Can the same track serve a guestroom and a ward?

Treat them as two briefs. A guestroom track follows a window and a pelmet, while a ward track follows bed positions on the plan. Ask each maker which of the two it has made and for the layout drawing it would work from.

Do motorised tracks come with their control?

Only where the quotation lists it. Ask for each part of the set by name, including the motor, the power unit and the control, and state who connects the set to the room control system.

Should the track come from the curtain workroom or from a track maker?

Either route can work. Keep each track type on its own line so that profile, runner, bends and finish can be checked item by item, and ask the workroom to confirm the track against the curtain schedule.
