There is no single “airport seating factory” category. A terminal schedule can contain fixed beam seating, loose public lounge chairs, upholstered VIP-lounge seating, gate tables with power and outdoor transport-hub seats, each requiring a different production line and evidence set. This 2026 guide therefore ranks the manufacturer types a project team should shortlist, rather than publishing names that cannot be verified against the exact product and report.
The distinction is important because EN 12727 excludes linked seating that is not fastened to the floor or wall, while BIFMA describes ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 as covering indoor public and lounge seating, including multiple-seat units. For the full terminal package, see our guide to airport lounge and transport-hub procurement from China.
How We Define a Strong Airport Seating Manufacturer
A strong candidate is not the source with the largest catalogue. It is the source whose production line makes the exact seating type, whose report identifies the quoted model, and whose drawings resolve anchoring, spacing, power, cleaning and replacement parts. The shortlist should be built separately for each product group.
1. Fixed Beam and Gate Seating Manufacturers
These sources fabricate beams, legs, seat shells, armrests and floor-fixing plates as one engineered system. Ask for the exact beam length, number of positions, intermediate supports, seat material, arm configuration, floor fixing and test report. If the unit is not permanently fastened, do not assume EN 12727 applies merely because the seats are linked.
2. Indoor Public and Lounge Seating Manufacturers
BIFMA’s current standards description says ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 covers waiting, reception, visitor, restaurant, dining, cafeteria and other gathering-area seating, and can include multiple seating positions. This manufacturer type suits loose terminal lounges and reception zones. Match the report to the exact chair or sofa configuration and any large-occupant requirement stated in the project brief.
3. Upholstered Airport Lounge Manufacturers
Business and VIP lounges need upholstery capability as well as frames. For United States destinations, CPSC states that 16 CFR Part 1640 applies to indoor upholstered seating and requires the permanent federal compliance label. The fabric, barrier, filling and decking used in the quoted model should match the tested construction. The project may also specify stricter local or operator fire requirements.

Send us the layout and seating schedule. We will split it by production line and compare drawings, reports, power modules and finishes item by item.
4. Seating-with-Power System Manufacturers
A powered gate seat is furniture plus an electrical assembly. Ask for the outlet or USB module model, input rating, cord route, access panel, strain relief, replacement method and destination certification. A seating strength report does not cover the electrical module. Keep the approved module in the bill of materials so a visual substitute is not fitted later.
5. Outdoor and Semi-Outdoor Transport Seating Manufacturers
Open platforms, ferry terminals and covered kerbsides need a separate material route. State metal alloy or grade, coating system, fasteners, drainage and the site’s corrosion category. EN 12727 itself does not include ageing, ambient-temperature effects or upholstery durability, so weathering evidence and corrosion requirements sit on their own specification lines.
6. Accessible and Priority-Seating System Manufacturers
Accessibility is an installation and wayfinding question as well as a seat question. The project design team and approving authority set clearances, transfer spaces, priority locations, arm configuration, contrast and signage. The seating source then has to show those details on the coordinated drawing. Do not let a catalogue image stand in for an approved layout.
What to Compare Across Quotations
| Field | Evidence to compare |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Model, configuration, beam length, supports and options |
| Structural route | Applicable standard, edition, complete report and tested mounting |
| Upholstery | Cover, filling, barrier and fire evidence required by destination |
| Power | Module model, rating, certification and replacement access |
| Site interface | Floor fixing, spacing, cable routes and coordinated layout |
| Maintenance | Replaceable shells, armrests, covers, modules and spare-part references |
Why We Do Not Publish a Named Ranking Here
A named list would imply that one company is suitable for every terminal seat type. Public catalogues and marketing claims do not prove that the exact quoted model has the report, installation and electrical evidence a project requires. A project-specific shortlist is more useful: one or more sources for each product group, screened against the same drawings and evidence matrix.
How FBM Sourcing Builds the Shortlist
FBM Sourcing is a Guangzhou-based China sourcing agent and project procurement service. We split the terminal schedule into factory-readable groups, send a single specification to each appropriate production line, and compare the returned drawings and evidence line by line. We do not treat a generic certificate for a company as proof for every model.
When bulk production is finished and before shipment, our own team carries out one inspection against the signed-off specification, covering quantities, dimensions, finish, hardware, power-module identity, labels and packing, with photos and video. Type testing and electrical certification remain separate evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What standard applies to airport beam seating?
It depends on the mounting and destination specification. EN 12727 covers ranked seating permanently fastened to the floor or wall and excludes loose linked seating; ANSI/BIFMA X5.4 covers indoor public and lounge seating categories in North America.
Is a catalogue certificate enough?
No. Request the complete report for the exact model and configuration, then compare the tested construction with the quoted drawing.
Does a seating report cover built-in power?
No. The electrical module needs its own model identity, rating, destination evidence, cord routing and replacement details.
Can lounge sofas and gate beam seats come from one source?
Sometimes, but do not assume it. They use different construction and evidence routes. Evaluate each product group against the source’s actual production line.
What should be approved before production?
Approve the coordinated layout, model and configuration, finishes, upholstery, fixing details, power components, markings, packing and the evidence register.
