Project Background
A hospitality operator in South Africa, working through a local design consultant, engaged FBM Sourcing to produce and ship a multi-category furniture order for a restaurant and bar fit-out: button-tufted leather lounge seating for the bar area, black PE rattan outdoor dining sets for the patio, and RGB LED illuminated cocktail tables and stools for the bar and event space. As a furniture sourcing agent based in China, FBM Sourcing managed factory selection, specification control, quality inspection and consolidated shipping across all three product categories as one coordinated program.
Restaurant and bar fit-outs rarely come from a single factory. Upholstered lounge seating, outdoor rattan furniture and illuminated LED bar furniture are built by different specialist manufacturers, each with its own tooling, materials and finishing process. Sourcing all three through one point of contact — rather than the client managing three separate supplier relationships from overseas — is the core value FBM Sourcing brought to this order.

How It Works?
Understanding Client Needs
The design consultant supplied a mixed furniture list covering three distinct use areas of the venue: a lounge/bar zone calling for button-tufted leather sofas, loveseats and accent chairs; an outdoor patio zone calling for weather-resistant black PE rattan dining sets with tempered-glass tabletops; and a bar/event zone calling for illuminated RGB LED cocktail tables and stools that could change colour to match different events. Each zone had different performance requirements — indoor upholstery needed consistent leather grain and tufting, outdoor rattan needed UV- and weather-resistant weave, and the LED furniture needed reliable rechargeable battery life and remote-control range — so FBM Sourcing documented separate specification sheets for each category before approaching factories.
Market Sourcing and Factory Selection
Three specialist factories were matched to the three product categories: a leather upholstery workshop with experience in tufted commercial seating, a PE rattan outdoor furniture factory producing weather-rated dining sets with tempered-glass tops, and an LED furniture manufacturer producing rechargeable illuminated cocktail tables and stools with multi-colour remote controls. Matching each category to a factory that specialises in it — rather than forcing a single general supplier to cover leather, rattan and electronics — is what kept tolerances and finish quality consistent across such a varied order, a distinction covered in more depth in our guide to OEM vs ODM vs custom-made project furniture.
Order Confirmation and Production Scheduling
Once samples were approved against the design consultant’s reference images — leather colour and tufting pattern, rattan weave colour and glass thickness, and LED colour range and remote function — purchase orders were placed with all three factories on a coordinated production schedule so the mixed order could still consolidate into a single container rather than three separate shipments.

Production Follow-Up and Quality Checks
Quality control was run separately for each category, against the checkpoints that matter for how each product performs in a live hospitality venue. On the leather lounge seating: frame strength, foam density, tufting button alignment, seam and stitching consistency, and leather colour match against the approved swatch, with every unit measured for matching seat height and depth across the set. On the rattan dining sets: weave tightness and colour consistency, tempered-glass thickness and edge-grinding safety, and frame weld points checked for the outdoor use the sets were built for. On the LED bar furniture: colour-change function tested on every remote control unit, rechargeable battery run-time verified, and the illuminated shell material checked for even light diffusion across each cocktail table and stool.
Every unit was inspected before packing rather than sampled at random — a mixed indoor/outdoor/electronic order gives a factory more places for an inconsistency to slip through, so piece-by-piece inspection was the standard applied across all three categories.
Container Loading and Shipping
The leather lounge seating was wrapped in protective film with corner padding, the rattan dining sets were packed with glass tabletops separated and edge-protected, and the LED furniture was packed in its original branded cartons with each cocktail table and stool sleeved to prevent scuffing to the illuminated shell. All three product lines were scheduled to finish production in the same window, allowing the full order to consolidate into one 20-foot container rather than three separate part-load shipments to South Africa.
After-Sales Support
After the container shipped, FBM Sourcing remained the single point of contact for the order across all three factories. If any unit had arrived with a transit mark or a function issue on the LED furniture, our team would handle the claim directly with the factory responsible — arranging a replacement part or corrective action on the factory’s account — so the client and the design consultant never had to chase three separate Chinese suppliers individually. This after-sales accountability is part of every multi-category engagement FBM Sourcing runs.
Project Completion Photos
The order was produced, inspected and consolidated on schedule, with leather lounge seating, rattan patio dining sets and RGB LED bar furniture all checked against approved samples before loading into one container bound for South Africa. The client received a coordinated furniture package for three distinct areas of the venue — lounge, patio and bar — from three specialist factories, managed as a single procurement program instead of three unrelated supplier relationships. This is the model FBM Sourcing still runs today for hospitality and restaurant buyers across our commercial furniture sourcing program; buyers planning a similar multi-area fit-out can also see our chain restaurant furniture procurement case in Dubai and our step-by-step guide to furnishing a hospitality venue from China.
