Custom metal frames sourcing from China – welded steel frame fabrication

Behind most things a fit-out contractor installs sits a welded metal frame — the steel base under a banquette, the subframe carrying a partition, the display racking in a retail unit, the secondary frame a curtain wall panel hangs from. Bought separately, these frames are quoted as afterthoughts by whichever trade needs them; bought together, they are one fabrication scope with shared sections, shared jigs and one finish batch. Custom metal frames sourcing from China consolidates exactly that scope, and FBM Sourcing manages it as a building material sourcing agent — from frame drawings through jig-controlled welding, finishing and labelled, install-ready delivery.

Types of Custom Metal Frames and Specifications for Commercial Projects

Project frame packages typically combine four families:

  • Furniture frames — table bases, chair and bench frames, banquette substructures and bed frames in steel tube, produced bare for local upholstery or as finished components
  • Partition and joinery subframes — steel or aluminum framing for wall panels, feature joinery, vanity units and reception desks
  • Display and shelving frames — retail gondolas, back-wall systems, storage racking and exhibition structures, flat-packed with bolted connections
  • Facade and window sub-frames — secondary steel and aluminum frames, brackets and embeds that carry cladding panels and glazing units

Specification is section, wall thickness and finish. Furniture and display frames run on 20×20 to 40×40 mm hollow sections in 1.2–2 mm wall; partition and facade sub-frames step up to 40×40–60×60 mm sections in 2–3 mm wall, with load-bearing brackets cut from 4–6 mm plate. Steel frames are powder coated at 60–80 µm for interior use and hot-dip galvanized to ISO 1461 where they disappear into external walls; aluminum frames go to architectural powder coat or 15–25 µm anodizing. The invisible specification is the jig: repeat frames are welded in fixtures so frame 300 matches frame 1 within a couple of millimetres — the difference between an installer’s good day and a site full of packers.

How Does Custom Metal Frame Sourcing from China Work?

Frames are drawing-driven. The inputs are the designer’s or engineer’s frame details — or, for furniture frames, the product drawings they support — with quantities, fixing interfaces and finish schedule. The factory returns shop drawings covering member sizes, weld positions, hole patterns and connection details for approval before cutting, and builds a first-article frame off the production jig for sign-off; native CAD files shorten the loop considerably, as covered in our CAD and shop drawings guide. Where the frame carries another trade’s work — glazing, stone, joinery — the interface tolerances are agreed on the drawings, not discovered on site.

Production for a typical package runs 25–40 days from approved shop drawings. Welded frames ship foam-wrapped and stacked in steel-strapped crates; bolted systems flat-pack with fasteners bagged per unit and assembly drawings in every crate. Frames are dense, efficient cargo: a full restaurant-chain frame package or several hundred display frames commonly loads within a single 40ft container, and the scope consolidates naturally with the furniture it supports — see how the finished pieces travel in our metal table and metal chair sourcing pages.

Quality Standards and Inspection

Frame quality is dimensional discipline. FBM’s own inspection team checks the package at three points: section and material verification before fabrication, in-line inspection of jig setup, weld quality and squareness during the run — including diagonal measurements on repeat frames to catch jig drift early — and a final inspection covering coating thickness readings, hole-pattern checks against the approved drawings and trial-fit of bolted systems before crating. Every stage is documented in photos and video and delivered to the client’s project team, with material and finish certificates in the shipping pack.

Why Source Custom Metal Frames Through FBM Sourcing

Frames are the scope that touches every other scope, which is exactly why they belong in one order: the same project carries glass partitions wanting subframes, facade panels wanting brackets, and heavier steelwork from our steel structures scope — all sharing sections, finish batches and container space. As a building material sourcing agent we run the frame package as one fabrication programme on a transparent 5–8% service fee: one drawing dialogue, one jig discipline, one inspection regime, one consolidated shipment.
