How It Works?
Understanding Client Needs
The client was furnishing a large villa in the United Kingdom and wanted furniture that UK retail simply does not stock: a six-metre sectional sofa built to the room, seating upholstered in specific fabric colours, and marble and glass-top tables matched across the living spaces. Buying this as a package from China made sense on both cost and consistency — but only with someone on the ground to manage showrooms, factories and quality.
FBM Sourcing hosted the client in Foshan for an accompanied sourcing visit. Over several days we walked the furniture markets and factory showrooms together, comparing fabric swatches and colour samples on the spot, confirming dimensions against the villa’s floor plan, and negotiating prices showroom by showroom. By the end of the visit the full furniture schedule was selected and priced.
Market Sourcing and Factory Selection
The order spread across several specialist workshops: an upholstery plant for the sofas and seating, and casegoods factories for the marble-top tables, TV cabinets and sideboards. Each item was confirmed with the workshop against the client’s selected fabric codes, stone and glass specifications, and custom dimensions — including the six-metre sofa produced as two joined sections sized to the room.
Planning a similar commercial project?
FBM Sourcing works with project owners, developers, main contractors and FF&E contractors on hotel, apartment, school, office and other commercial building projects. Send us your BOQ, drawings or product list — we’ll come back with a sourcing plan and budget estimate.
Order Confirmation and Production Scheduling
After fabric colours and dimensions were locked against the showroom selections, deposits were placed and production was scheduled across all workshops to converge on a single consolidation and loading window, keeping both containers on one vessel booking.
Production Follow-Up and Quality Checks
Every piece was inspected at the factory before packing. Dimensions were measured against the order — the six-metre sofa was tape-checked at 598cm, within the 2cm handmade tolerance agreed with the client — cushion and upholstery colours were compared against the approved swatches, frames and legs were checked for stability, and marble and tempered-glass tops were verified undamaged before being boxed with foam protection. Inspection photos with measurements were shared with the client as each item passed.
Container Loading and Shipping
Sofas were wrapped in protective film with corner reinforcement, glass and marble tops were packed flat in foam-lined cartons, and chairs were boxed with legs protected. The goods were consolidated and loaded into two 40HQ containers under our supervision — container condition checked before loading, cartons stacked and braced, and doors sealed for the voyage to the UK.
After-Sales Support
After shipment, FBM Sourcing remained the client’s single point of contact. Loading photos and the packing list travelled with the documents so the villa team could check items off on arrival, and any transit question was handled by our team directly with the factories.
Project Completion Photos
The complete villa furniture package — sofas, chairs, tables, cabinets and accessories — was produced, inspected and shipped to schedule in two 40HQ containers. Every item was measured and colour-checked against the client’s selections before loading, and the client furnished the entire home in one coordinated delivery instead of dozens of separate retail purchases.
