How It Works?
An interior design firm working with private residential clients in South Africa approached FBM Sourcing to source a mixed order of furniture and lighting for several villa and residential fit-out projects. Rather than a single product category, the brief covered outdoor LED lighting features, rattan-weave outdoor furniture, leather lounge seating for living areas, and wood veneer TV and bedroom storage cabinets — a product mix typical of a design firm furnishing multiple rooms and outdoor areas across one or more residential properties.
Each product category was matched to a specialist factory: outdoor LED lighting fixtures from a lighting manufacturer producing colour-changing, remote-controlled illuminated furniture and garden features; rattan-weave outdoor furniture and leather lounge seating from separate furniture factories in the Foshan area; and wood veneer TV and storage cabinets from a case-goods factory producing painted and veneered finishes to match residential interior specifications.

Finishes, colours, and hardware specifications were confirmed against the design firm’s brief for each category before orders were placed. Because the products came from several specialist factories on different lead times, production was scheduled backwards from a single consolidation date, so the complete mixed order could load into one 20-foot container instead of several partial shipments.
Quality control covered upholstery fabric and stitching consistency on the leather lounge pieces, weave tightness and frame stability on the rattan furniture, veneer finish and hardware fit on the wood cabinets, and function testing on the LED lighting units and remote controls before packing. Furniture hardware components were checked against the design firm’s specification before the order was approved for shipment.
Products from multiple factories were consolidated at a single loading point and packed into a 20-foot general purpose container, with furniture and lighting units protected and braced for the ocean transit to South Africa. Container loading was supervised to confirm the approved product mix and quantities matched the design firm’s order before the container was sealed and dispatched.
After shipment, FBM Sourcing remained the client’s single point of contact for the order. If any item arrived with a transit or quality issue, our team handled the claim directly with the factory concerned — arranging replacement parts or corrective action on the factory’s account — so the client never had to negotiate with a Chinese supplier from overseas. This after-sales accountability is part of every procurement engagement we run.
